The churches in Germany were, for the most part, acquiescent about the Nazi onslaught against the Jews. Bible Scholar, Lance Lambert asks the question: ‘what was wrong with the churches, spiritually?’ Our participants from the previous section point to two main deficiencies. The resulting spiritual vacuum in the church opened the way for the deception of Hitler’s Aryan ideology to be accepted. The Nazis decreed that Jesus was not Jewish, but Aryan. Adolf Hitler wasn’t simply hell-bent on destroying the Jewish people, but the witness of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Church as well. It has been said that the story of Nazi Germany is really the story of the conflict between two saviors – the Lord and the Führer – and two crosses – the Cross of Christ and Hitler’s cross, the swastika.
It is believed that Hitler was more sympathetic towards the Muslim religion than Christianity – hence his alliance with Haj Amin Al-Husseini. Kelvin Crombie examines Hitler’s plan, with Al-Husseini, to extend the ‘Final Solution’ across the Middle East. Three Israelis share their experiences of living in Palestine at the time. Lance concludes this section by asking whether the Third Reich was Satan’s attempt to bring forth the ultimate Antichrist before God’s appointed time, and thus prevent the restoration of Israel as promised by God. Could the victory of El Alamein be a victory of God’s doing?
