The Caldwell Video Diaries
In preparation for "Patterns of Evidence: Journey to Mount Sinai II," we hope you enjoy this engaging series! We join Jim and Penny Caldwell, witnessing their adventures to Jabal al-Lawz, a primary candidate for Mount Sinai in Saudi Arabia, to document the archaeological remains around the mountain.
Jim Caldwell worked for Aramco in Saudi Arabia as an oilfield engineer, which is what allowed the Caldwells to access the sites around Jabal al-Lawz during a time when it was still difficult and even dangerous to go there. For a long time, the Caldwells were some of the only people with footage of these locations - as they embarked on a total of 15 trips documenting what appeared to be a pattern of evidence matching the Bible around the mountain.
In 2003, Tim Mahoney went with the Caldwells, Dr. Lennart Möller, and Dr. Glen Fritz to Saudi Arabia - and, although they had permission to be there from the Saudi government, they were not welcome at Jabal al-Lawz. All of Tim's footage from that trip was confiscated and never returned. He was only able to keep the photos that he had taken.
After the trip, Tim filmed several interviews with Jim and Penny at their home in Mississippi and later at his office where they transferred over 25 hours of the Caldwell's footage. During this process, an audio track of the Caldwells giving a commentary over their videos was recorded. This commentary gives a very unique look at what was happening to Jim and Penny as they ventured into these interesting locations. It also gives a sense of being there with them for the very first time as they raise ideas and think through the possibilities of the attributes of the area and the artifacts with possible connections to the Bible.
